My school is a title one school where 80% of students are poor or below poverty line. By teaching them French, I am able to offer them a view of other cultures that they would probably never experience otherwise.
So far, French has showed them a world of art and history that has tremendously opened up their own view of the world. Now, in French 4, we are going in debt reading great authors and writing French sentences in different tenses. The French language has complicated verb tenses used in different forms depending on the meaning more than on rules. I want them to be able to read current affairs from newspapers and write essays to debate. For this purpose, I feel that these books will help them greatly in our class.
I have used them in the past in other schools and I have seen the success they can provide. But our school district is really poor this year because of the budget cut.
