A Good Method Helps a Lot
On August 21, 2017, Helen teaching supervisor of ZheJiang University attended a class of Evgeniy at the Uncle Sam Kindergarten in BinJiang, HangZhou.
Before the class, Zhejiang university Helen foreign teacher Evgeniy prepared a variety of display cards in the classroom, and wrote the name of each child on the blackboard. The children god into the classroom one by one, and he give the order: "One-two-three!", and the students' chorus: "A-B-C!". The class started fast, quiet and with discipline.
Evgeniy and the children introduced themselves. He let them to sit on the stage and introduce themselves. After children introduced themselves, the teacher greeted each child face to face.
Looking at the card of the words, Evgeniy showed the cards to the children and asked them: "What's this"? Some children couldn't pronounce the word correctly, so the teacher taught them the right pronunciation.
In this game, Evgeniy tells the teacher: "The next step is to integrate, diligent students can get a star, disobedient to the classroom discipline can lose it." The teacher passed it on to each child, and at this moment everyone was ready to try.
The first game is "Close your eyes and open your eyes". When Evgeniy says : "Close your eyes", children have to close their eyes. Then, he says: "Open you eyes", and they open them. Suddenly he asks: "What 's missing?" There were thirteen CARDS on the table, and one of them went missing. Some children didn’t raise their hands to answer first, they can’t wait to say it and just stood up and shouted out the missing card in English. Many children in the game could get many stars, and they are unwilling to let the others win.
The second game is: "Who wants to try? Evgeniy puts all the cards on the table and lets two children come on stage at the same time. One child says one word and the other one chooses the card of that word. The child who can choose correctly the corresponding card and pronounce it accurately would be awarded a star.
Students EMMILY and CHRIS started to play, EMMILY was unable to choose the right card, Evgeniy encouraged children to help her. The one who could help EMMILY to complete the questions and answers correctly would be awarded a star.
This game not only stimulates children's enthusiasm in the class, but also develops the ability of working in teams. During the class, some children broke classroom rules, and the teacher talked very seriously with them about removing one of the stars to show punishment, which was very good for maintaining discipline of the class.
Evgeniy made a full preparation before class. He designed games taking into account children’s ages which go from 3 to 7 and they had a good effect. This method can involve all the students in the activity. Game designing is a very effective and efficient method.
In the meantime, while he teachs students oral English pronunciation, they participate in many kinds of games, with a relaxed, stress-free way of learning, so that students can fully integrate into the classroom.
Evgeniy uses a points system in the classroom to create a positive and participative atmosphere. He can actively encourage the enthusiasm of children and maintain classroom discipline. There is a good affinity and interaction between the teacher and the students.
In the middle of the game, Evgeniy will observe which children have lower scores, and then give more opportunities to avoid a gap between the two levels, so as to avoid the frustration of children.
Therefore, in the teaching of English, the teaching method of playing games can be used in this teaching method, and the children aged between 3 and 7 should be designed appropriately.
Through the whole class, it is not hard to see that children who like it easy to learn English well and actively interact with teachers. It is effective in the management of classroom discipline and is a reminder to students of different degrees of discipline.
